Harley-Davidson Center, Inc., celebrated 40 years of service to Richmond and the surrounding area on March 29, 2016. Whitewater Valley Richmond, IN, Chapter Harley Owners Group will be hosting a hog roast on Saturday, May 14, 2016, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the dealership. The meal is free to the public but donations will be accepted to benefit the Wounded Warrior Project. There will be an In-Store Poker Run and the dealership will have specials and door prizes.
The dealership opened at 725 N. 10th St. on March 29, 1976, in a building that had been a grocery store. The building underwent two additions and several remodels as the business grew. It finally became evident that a larger facility was required and a new building was started at 2240 Chester Blvd in the fall of 1996. Upon completion in March of 1997 the dealership relocated to that building and remains there.
George and Louise Shade opened the dealership and Louise still manages the dealership as George passed away in 2015. The staff of the dealership consists of Greg Brooks, Motorcycle Sales, Ken Millhouse, Barry Bolyard and Rick Stapleton in Parts and Accessories, Angie McElhany in Motorclothes, Greg Shade, Service Manager, Gene Davis, Service Writer, and Service Technicians Don Young, Israel Chesher and Chris Stapleton.
